Question 1

What is the best time of year for family photos in Houston?

Accepted Answer

Spring and fall are the most popular seasons for outdoor family photos in Houston because the temperatures are generally more comfortable and the scenery photographs beautifully. Fall is especially popular for family portraits and holiday artwork, while spring offers fresh greenery and seasonal blooms. Outdoor sessions are typically scheduled around golden hour for soft, flattering light.

Question 2

Where are the best locations for family photos in Houston?

Accepted Answer

The best location depends on your family’s style, wardrobe, season, and the look you want for your portraits. Polly photographs families throughout Greater Houston and helps select a setting with the right scenery, light, and atmosphere for your session, from elegant natural locations to more refined or urban settings.

Question 3

Can we bring our dog to our family photo session?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. Pets can be included in many family sessions as long as the selected location allows them. Let me know during planning so I can recommend a suitable Houston-area location and help make the session comfortable for both your family and your pet.

Question 4

What happens if it rains on the day of our outdoor family session?

Accepted Answer

If weather conditions are not suitable for an outdoor family session, we will choose the next available date that works for both of us. Weather-related changes are handled separately from client-requested rescheduling so you are not penalized for conditions outside your control.

Question 5

What should my family wear for a photo session in Houston?

Accepted Answer

Choose coordinated rather than perfectly matching outfits, using a cohesive palette with soft neutrals, muted tones, and beautiful textures. Large logos, neon colors, and very busy patterns are best avoided. Styling guidance is included, and wardrobe options for mothers and children may be available through the Client Wardrobe to help create a polished, timeless look.

Question 6

Do you help us pose during family photos?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Family sessions are fully guided from beginning to end. I will direct flattering poses and natural interactions while still allowing room for movement, laughter, and genuine connection, so your portraits feel polished without looking stiff or forced.

Question 7

What if my children don’t cooperate during family photos?

Accepted Answer

Children are not expected to sit perfectly still or smile on command. Family sessions are relaxed and fully guided, with movement, play, and connection encouraged so genuine expressions can happen naturally. Polly adapts the pace and direction to each child’s personality, helping families enjoy the experience without pressure.

Question 8

How far in advance should I book a family photography session in Houston?

Accepted Answer

I recommend booking your family photography session at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially during the busy fall and holiday seasons when availability fills quickly. Booking early gives us plenty of time to plan your location, wardrobe, and overall vision for the session. If you have a specific date or season in mind, I recommend reaching out as early as possible.
